Istanbul is number one city in Europe

In the World’s Best Awards 2013, Istanbul has been named as the number one city in Europe by Travel + Leisure, tramping the Istanbul’s credentials in its goal to host the Olympic Games in 2020 and also the Paralympic Summer Games.

Ending in the 2nd spot voting in the world category, Istanbul beat out Venice, London and Paris in European category. Over thirty one million people went to this Turkish city from across the world last year, and the tourists’ number in Istanbul has also increased in 2013’s first six months.

The country has seen a 4.93 percent increase in the first half of this year compared to the first half of 2012. This figure really fits into the country’s plan of welcoming fifty million visitors every year by the year 2020 excluding Olympic spectators.

Hasan Arat, the chairman of Istanbul 2020, told that he was really happy that Istanbul has been voted as the number one destination to visit in Europe. He added that audiences all over the world are captivated by the magic of Istanbul; and this is the reason why best-selling books or Hollywood films are set there. And it is much better in real life.

Turkish Airlines, the sponsor of Istanbul 2020, has experienced an increase of passengers by twenty six percent in the first six months of 2013. The airline also has plans to take its aircraft fleet to 415 to 228 by the year 2020.
